5 easy steps to get Android M Developer preview on your Nexus device
Google has released the Android M developer preview after Google I/O last night and here is how you can get it on your Nexus device. Android developer preview is available for Nexus 5, 6, 9 and Player. This version is a developer preview and as the name suggests it is meant to give a preview of the features to any developer and it is not meant for consumer. Even then if you are an eager beaver and wanting to take a sneak peak of Android M, you can go ahead and get it on your Nexus device. Make sure you back up all your data as this process will wipe your mobile clean.
Step 1: Download the Required Files
- Download and install appropriate USB drivers for your mobile
- Download the ADB and Fastboot files on your PC
- Download the Android M image file for your Nexus device. Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player
Step 2: Fastboot Mode. Switch off your mobile and start it in fastboot mode. To start in fastboot mode, press the appropriate key combination in your mobile.
Step 3: If you have not yet unlocked the bootloader, open command line mode in your PC [ Run > CMD ] and type “fastboot oem unlock”. This will also wipe your mobile clean.
Step 4: Now from the image file you downloaded, extract it into a folder and run the
flash-all script. This is flash the Android M image in your mobile and you are done.
Optional Step: Go to fastboot mode again and execute the command “fastboot oem lock” to lock your bootloader again for safety purposes.
