Here is me bringing you the updates on the Event, from my den.

Everything we know about the Nexus 5X and 6P so far

Its the time of the year when all the Android enthusiasts buckle up and brace for the new Nexus device to impact. Traditionally, until the Nexus 5, a Nexus device has not been a commercial end-consumer device. The intent of the Nexus initiative is to give the developers and power users a reference device with a high end hardware and pure Android loaded, so that they can test their apps or any other experiments on it. But that intent is dissolved and the Nexus is becoming a device that would interest any mobile buyer. So the next big thing (actually two) is about to be announced and there has been lots of leaks and rumors doing the rounds on the internet. Here is what we know so far about these devices purely based on all the unofficial sources.

For the first time, the Nexus devices will be available in two variants. The Nexus 5X and the 6P. Inspired by Apple?

The Nexus 5X

  • The Nexus 5X would be made by LG
  • I would have a 5.2 inch Full HD display
  • The 5x will be 146.9 mm in height and 72.5 mm wide
  • A variant of the 5X could support wireless charging
  • I will have a fingerprint sensor at the back
  • It will be powered by a 1.8GHz hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor
  • It will have 2 GB RAM
  • It will be powered by a 2700 mAh battery
  • On the camera, it is touted to sport a 12.3 MP camera on the rear and 5 MP on the front.
  • It would be available in multiple colors
  • It will run on Android M 6.0 out of the box

The Nexus 6P

  • The Nexus 6P will be made by Huawei
  • The Nexus 6P will have a 5.7 inch WQHD display with support for 2560 x 1440 resolution and leading to 518ppi
  • It will be 159.4 mm in height and 77.8 mm wide and just 7.3 mm thin
  • It will weigh 178 grams
  • It will have an all metal body with dual front speakers and fingerprint sensor at the back
  • It will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor
  • It will have 3 GB RAM with 16/64/128 GB ROM variant
  • It will be powered by a 3450 mAh battery
  • The 6P will also have an USB type C port with support for fast charging
  • On the camera, it is touted to sport a 12.3 MP camera on the rear and 8 MP on the front.
  • It would be available in multiple colors
  • It may also support memory card storage
  • It will run on Android M 6.0 out of the box

So the spec definitely look interesting. Let’s wait for the official announcement and see if the devices are gonna be a hit like the Nexus 5 or flop badly like the Nexus 6.

As reported by AndroidPolice, the 5X could be priced starting from $379 (~ INR 25000) and the 6P could be priced starting at $499 (~ INR 33000)

5 easy steps to get Android M Developer preview on your Nexus device

Google has released the Android M developer preview after Google I/O last night and here is how you can get it on your Nexus device. Android developer preview is available for Nexus 5, 6, 9 and Player. This version is a developer preview and as the name suggests it is meant to give a preview of the features to any developer and it is not meant for consumer. Even then if you are an eager beaver and wanting to take a sneak peak of Android M, you can go ahead and get it on your Nexus device. Make sure you back up all your data as this process will wipe your mobile clean.

Step 1: Download the Required Files

Step 2: Fastboot Mode. Switch off your mobile and start it in fastboot mode. To start in fastboot mode, press the appropriate key combination in your mobile.

Step 3: If you have not yet unlocked the bootloader, open command line mode in your PC [ Run > CMD ] and type “fastboot oem unlock”. This will also wipe your mobile clean.

Step 4: Now from the image file you downloaded, extract it into a folder and run the flash-all script. This is flash the Android M image in your mobile and you are done.

Optional Step: Go to fastboot mode again and execute the command “fastboot oem lock” to lock your bootloader again for safety purposes.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible if your brick your device in this process. Make sure you have sufficient charge in your mobile before starting. Certain carriers and mobile vendors may void your warranty when bootloader is unlocked. Please check and proceed with discretion.
