At the ongoing Mobile World Congress, Lenovo has announced two new smartphones, the Vibe K5 and Vibe K5 Plus. The K5 is announced at a price of $129 while the K5 plus would be priced at $149. The K5 is a 5 inch device with a 720p display. It is powered by a Snapdragon 415 processor and has 2 GB of RAM. It has 16 GB of internal storage and comes with dual Dolby Atmos enabled speakers.
The K5 Plus is a 5 inch device as well, but it packs a full HD screen. It is powered by a Snapdragon 616 processor with 2 GB of RAM. It has 13 MP camera at the rear and a 5 MP front shooter.
A quick profiling of the Lenovo mobile product line up would show that each device has a unique feature. Lenovo devices generally don’t boast about specs, but they concentrate on the experience. The K5 mobiles are stylishly designed devices. They bring the stylish appeal to the table, without buring holes in the wallets.
The Vibe K5 mobiles have a interchangeable aluminium casing. It is targeted at entry level buyers, who are looking for style factor along with decent performance and good audio experience. The Vibe K5 and K5 plus are both expected to be launched in India soon.
The K3 was called the K3 Note. The K4 got the Vibe tag and became the Vibe K4 Note. While they were both 5.5 inch device, the K5 and K5 Plus are 5 inch devices. Hence they have shed the Note tag. There is no clear association with a product line and a naming series. Though the product naming is confusing, the Lenovo K5 and K5 Plus appear to have a design that will make you look at it twice.
Lenovo Vibe X3 has proved to be a popular mobile in demand. It is not often that Lenovo launches a flagship device and this time, the Vibe X3 proved to be quite a surprise entry into the flagship arena. The Vibe X3 is not all about specification, but it more of experience. Lenovo has put in a lot of effort to make the Vibe X3 appeal to a wide range of audience. Specifically, the audiophile crowd will be attracted to this device. It would also appeal to anyone who wants a good camera mobile and also a great looking device. I did talk about the Vibe X3 in detail, in my elaborate review at GadgetDetail.com.
You can check my thoughts on the Vibe X3 in my video review here.
What I liked the most about the Lenovo Vibe X3
It has a cool design with its metal rim and matte finished quality plastic body
The images from the camera had a dramatic feel to it. I appreciate the depth of focus and color levels that this camera can deliver.
The dedicated audio chips for voice, hifidelity and low fidelity audio, just drove me insane.
Battery life on the Vibe X3 deserves a standing ovation
All this for just Rs 19999
What I did not like about the Lenovo Vibe X3
Fingerprint sensor wakes the screen only when locked and not when the display is just asleep
Lenovo UI is still running on top of Android 5.0. When do we see the light of Marshmallow?
RGB colors were a bit over saturated
Overall, the pros, outweigh the cons and the Vibe X3 stays on top of my recommended flagship device to buy and to own. Check out the camera samples below (Video and Still images)
I must say that Lenovo is on the roll this year. It all started with the success of the Lenovo A6000 and ever since Lenovo has launched dozens of mobile in India. The K3 Note was another success story for Lenovo. As much as the A series, the Vibe series has not been able to penetrate the market in volumes. Lenovo now aims to break that jinx with the new mobile: The Lenovo Vibe S1. Predominantly the Vibe series has been more about design and the S1 boasts design excellence all over. The S1 has a curved glass back with aluminium metal alloy rims. The curved glass seamlessly merges to the metal parts of the body and the design makes it look easy, but in reality, it has been a great technical challenge for Lenovo. The S1 is made for the selfie lovers. It has dual front facing cameras. There is an 8 MP camera and a 2 MP camera. The 8 MP sensor is the one which shoots the picture, while the 2 MP sensor measures the depth of focus. With the resultant image, you can do a bunch of crazy tricks. You can blur the background for a great looking selfie or you can totally cut your selfie out and place it in another other image of your choice.
On the front along with the dual camera, you would find the ear piece and sensors. The display is 5 inch IPS LCD panel capable of FULL HD resolution. The menu keys are not backlit. At the bottom you have the single speaker, but dual speaker grills flaunting the micro USB socket. At the top you have the 3.5 mm audio jack and a noise cancelling mic. The volume and power buttons are at the right. They are made of metal and have good tactile feedback. The SIM tray is on the left. It is a hybrid tray that takes in 2 nano SIM or 1 nano SIM and a microSD card.
As usual, Lenovo has packaged a screen guard and a transparent hard back case along with the box. It is only of nicest looking device I have seen this year. The design is sleek and looks premium and stylish. The front view of the mobile is boring and does not attract much attention, but the curved glass back gives it a nice style presence, and it is very slippery. The white color does not show fingerprint smudges, but the dark blue variant shows smudges all over.
Specifications of the Lenovo Vibe S1

I have been using the mobile for a few days now and yet to arrive at a conclusion on this device. The UI is Lenovo Vibe UI running on top of Android Lollipop. The UI has no lags and is very smooth. This is the same UI which we have seen in the other Lenovo devices. The display is also very responsive. The camera UI looks the same as other lenovo device, but it has certain features specific to the Vibe S1. The front camera UI has a switch to toggle between single and dual cam. The primary camera’s UI looks familiar but has only panoroma mode along with the auto mode. The manual mode is not present, like we saw in the Vibe Shot.
Check my detailed review at GadgetDetail.com. At Rs 15999 is it pitted directly against OnePlus X. In my opinion the Vibe S1 has got good design and decent specifications. Do let me know if you have any queries on the Vibe S1 and I will address it in the detailed review. It will be available from Amazon India, exclusively.
