Moto X Play – advantage Motorola

Motorola is on the roll. Right from the first generation Moto G and Moto X, they have redefined the standard of entry level and mid level segments. The Moto X play was announced in an event in NewYork back in July this year. It was one of the two successors for the Moto X. The Moto X Style (or Pure) is a slightly higher end model of the two. The Moto X play has a smaller screen but a larger battery. Just within 2 months of the international launch, the Moto X play has been made available in India.

Android 5.1 coming to Moto X and Moto E 4G LTE 2nd gen

After about 8 months of launch, finally Andoird 5.0 is breaking the 10% adoption rate. As more and more devices are lapping up the Lollipop, Motorola has also been quick to give the update, sometimes even faster than a Nexus device. Now the Moto X and Moto E 4G 2nd Generation mobiles are next in line to get the update. The update will start rolling out in Brazil and soon will make it to the rest of the world. The 5.1 update fixes some bugs and adds stability to the system. It also brings in a few little features like the HD voice support. Apart from the Android update, Motorola plans to add a few little features on its own. A new gesture named “Chop Chop” lights up the LED flash as a flash light with two quick chopping like action with the mobile.

Moto X vs Nexus 5

motoX_02_mobile

The Moto X was launched in India, today and available through online retailer Flipkart. While Moto X is a great device, I think its immediate competitor is the Nexus 5. The Moto Maker was the armour in this competiton and Moto X has that edge in US and in Europe. But in India, given that Moto Maker is not available, Nexus 5 still has it quad core snapdragon 800 processor to defend its position here. Pricing is a crucial factor in the Indian market. Moto X has been priced aggressively at 24k, though it doesn’t have a HD screen, it has a great camera as compared to the Nexus 5 in all fronts. It also has the Low energy bluetooth and an always listening core to interact with Google Now. In papers, Moto X has just a dual core processor, but I really don’t think that will be a big hurdle in the processing power for real world. I have not tested the performance of the Moto X, so that’s just my educated guess and hence am not jumping to conclusions here. Check out the specification comparison below and you will see that Moto X is a good Value for Money device.
